Billing and Credits

BetterPost uses a credit-based billing system. This guide explains how credits work, plan limits, and what happens when you run out of credits.

What Are Credits?

Credits are used to track your usage of BetterPost's AI-powered features. Each time you generate content, BetterPost uses credits from your monthly allowance.

Credit Costs

Content Generation: Each content generation costs 1 credit, regardless of:

  • Content type (newsletter, blog post, social media, etc.)
  • Number of stories used
  • Content length or complexity
  • Whether it's manual or scheduled generation

Other Operations: Currently, only content generation uses credits. Adding sources, viewing stories, and configuring projects are free.

Plan Limits

BetterPost offers several plans with different limits:

Free Trial

  • Credits: 10 per month
  • Projects: 1
  • Sources per Project: 5
  • Team Features: No

Perfect for trying out BetterPost and generating a few pieces of content to see how it works.

Standard

  • Credits: 100 per month
  • Projects: 1
  • Sources per Project: 30
  • Team Features: No

Great for individual users or small teams who need regular content generation.

Pro

  • Credits: 400 per month
  • Projects: 5
  • Sources per Project: 150
  • Team Features: Yes

Ideal for larger teams or users managing multiple content projects.

Trial Credits

When you first sign up, you receive 10 trial credits (users only, not organizations). These trial credits:

  • Are used first before any paid credits
  • Reset when your trial period ends
  • Are separate from your paid plan credits
  • Only apply to user accounts (not organization accounts)

After your trial credits are exhausted, BetterPost will use your paid plan credits if you have an active subscription.

Monthly Credit Reset

Credits reset monthly based on your billing period:

  • Credits reset on the same day each month as your subscription start date
  • Unused credits don't carry over to the next month
  • Your credit usage is tracked separately for each billing period

What Happens When Credits Run Out?

When you've used all your credits for the month:

  1. Content Generation is Blocked: You won't be able to generate new content until your credits reset or you upgrade
  2. Error Message: You'll see a message indicating you've reached your credit limit
  3. Upgrade Prompt: BetterPost will suggest upgrading to a plan with more credits

Note: You can still:

  • View and manage existing content
  • Add and configure sources
  • Review stories
  • Update project settings
  • Access all non-generation features

User vs Organization Billing

BetterPost supports both individual user accounts and organization accounts:

  • User Accounts: Can have trial credits, billed individually
  • Organization Accounts: No trial credits, billed at the organization level
  • Project Ownership: Projects can be owned by either users or organizations, and credits are deducted from the project owner's account

Checking Your Usage

You can check your current credit usage and plan limits at any time:

  1. Navigate to your account settings or billing page
  2. View your current plan and credit usage
  3. See how many credits you have remaining
  4. Check your project and source limits

Upgrading Your Plan

If you need more credits or higher limits:

  1. Visit your account's billing or plan page
  2. Review available upgrade options
  3. Select a plan that meets your needs
  4. Your new limits take effect immediately
  5. Credits reset based on your new billing cycle

Managing Credits

  • Plan Your Content: Schedule important content generation at the start of your billing period
  • Use Scheduled Posts Wisely: Scheduled posts use credits when they generate content
  • Review Before Generating: Make sure you're happy with story selection before generating to avoid wasting credits
  • Monitor Usage: Regularly check your credit usage to avoid surprises

Maximizing Value

  • Batch Content Creation: Generate multiple pieces of content in one session when you have stories ready
  • Use Advanced Mode: Save time by using saved settings and topics
  • Quality Over Quantity: Focus on generating high-quality content rather than maximum volume

Troubleshooting

"Credit Limit Reached" Error

Problem: You're seeing an error that you've reached your credit limit.

Solutions:

  • Wait for your monthly credit reset
  • Upgrade to a plan with more credits
  • Check if you're using trial credits (they may have been exhausted)

Credits Not Resetting

Problem: Your credits haven't reset when expected.

Solutions:

  • Check your billing period start date (credits reset on the same day each month)
  • Verify your subscription is active
  • Contact support if credits haven't reset after your billing date

Unexpected Credit Usage

Problem: You're using more credits than expected.

Solutions:

  • Remember that each content generation costs 1 credit
  • Check if scheduled posts are generating content automatically
  • Review your content history to see all generations
